What you get when you stay at the hostel: (Ambleside accommodation)
A bed, or bunk beds, in a dormitory subject to availability and booking. You can also book a dormitory(s) with a specific number of beds as a private room subject to availability. The whole hostel may be booked subject to availability and agreement.
Each dormitory has a wash hand basin with running water - usually hot and cold.
All dorms are carpeted and have central heating.
You will have use of the Kitchen (0730 - 1000hrs and 1430 - 2230hrs), dining room, lounge, showers and toilets.
We provide free for your use and subject to availability - a light, self service breakfast in the morning 0730 - 1000 hrs, tea, coffee (during kitchen open hours), free internet access (morning and evening), free wifi should be available too, and there is normally use of a drying room and laundry facilities.
The hostel is closed during the day generally from 1030 - 1430 hrs for cleaning, staff rest and maintenance. If the weather is diabolical or you are ill you will be permitted to use the lounge and outside loo during the time the hostel is closed if agreed with staff.
You may be able to use the conservatory to store bikes, motorcycles may be parked in the hostel grounds. There is free on street parking close to the hostel for cars (assuming Cumbria County Council do not mess with it!).
This is a hostel - not a hotel so we expect you to wash, dry and put away any items used in the kitchen and leave it tidy for other guests please.

The Hostel is located just 4 minutes\walk from the centre of Ambleside town centre,8 minutes walk from Lake Windermere. It is ideally
situated for access to all the Lakes and Fells and has good bus links to most towns and villages
in the National Park.Walks from the doorstep
A comfortable lounge, dining room and kitchen for guest use make this an ideal alternative to traditional
style bed and breakfast accommodation.
Washing and drying facilities, bike storage, internet access, tea and coffee, free street parking and
lots of shops and restaurants nearby
Long Distance paths and walks are within easy access from the hostel.
Use the hostel as a base camp for walking, cycling or swimming athletics club outings.
Ideal base for 3 peaks stopover, Great North Swim on (in?) Lake Windermere, 24 peaks challenge and most long distance walk
stopovers. Doing John o'Groats - Land End cycle ride? THIS IS THE 'HALF WAY POINT' give or take a mile!!
Watersports centre 2 miles at Low Wood for water skiing etc
60 beds in dorms (we have taken out 18 beds since we too over to give you more space) ranging from 2 - 12 beds. Each dorm has a wash basin and bed linen is included
in the cost.
Character is built in - squeaky floors, windows that rattle, prehistoric plumbing, steps and stairs
everywhere!!!! The hostel is not really suitable for people with mobility problems.
With a 2,4,6,7,10 & 12 bed dorms, most individuals, groups and
parties up to 60 people can be accommodated. Stay 1 night, 2 nights or a week - its up to you, but
booking is essential!
We are pleased to see motor cycle tour or club outings and have parking on site for about 30 neatly
placed bikes. Cyclists and mountain bikers can store their bikes in the glazed veranda or bike store. We have a drying
room and washing and drying machines for those who get a bit damp or need a clothes wash during their stay.
We have a limited number of towels for hire and usually have ear plugs somewhere in store!. There
is a computer for free internet access and we provide free tea and coffee while the kitchen is open.
The hostel is just 4 minutes from the centre of Ambleside, 7 minutes walk from Lake Windermere, a
short bus ride from Windermere town, Grassmere & Rydal (Wordsworth home and museum), Hawkhshead & Sawrey
(Beartrix Potters home), and easy travelling distance to Kendal, Keswick, Ulveston, Coniston and
all the main peaks and lakes. (Scarfell Pike, Helvellyn, Fairfield, Red Screes, Helm Crag / Ulswater,
Derwent Water, Tarn Hows Coniston Water, Elterwater, Grassmere and Thirlmere to name but a few.
